Fay House, before 1903.

Photograph of the Fay House in Camden, Me., probably taken by Frank L. Harris of Camden. It was one of the oldest properties in Camden until it burned in 1903. The house stood on upper Mountain Street near the entrance to the Mt. Battie road, and was owned by several generations of the Fay family, the last being Hervey Fay and his sisters. The farm was purchased partly of the 20 Associates, and partly from General Knox by Jeremiah Farnham. Farnham later sold it to the Rev. Thomas Cochran, the first settled minister in Camden. After a long period of trouble with the townspeople, Rev. Cochran was dismissed in 1816 and sold the property to Silas Fay.
